Comment:
Coach,
Could you recommend any football
camps in the region for my son? We found
a flier for a three day camp at UW-Whitewater, but we want to see what
else
is available.
|
Reply:
If your son is a perimeter player I would highly recommend
the Whitewater camp during June which focuses on the perimeter. Also at
this camp, myself, Coach Smedberg, as well as Coach Dressler coach at
the camp so it will give us an oppurtunity to meet and get to know your
son. All the other coaches at the camp are the best high school coaches
in the state and the entire staff at Whitewater is the best. If he is
a lineman I would suggest the Camp at River Falls, this is an excellent
camp for lineman focusing on techniques for linemen.
Thanks for the question

Coach,
On behalf of the Fond du lac football parents I would like to thank you
and all the coaches on another enjoyable and successful season of Cardinal
football.
The amount of time that you spend with our guys does not go unnoticed.
Another conference title, 9 wins, and two home playoff games. Thanks for
making this another fun season! Thanks again for everything and be sure
to pass this along to everyone involved with Cardinal football.
Sincerely,
Tom Biolo

P .S. Feel free to keep the questions coming.

| Q:
Coach Whittaker,
Now that the Cardinals have secured a playoff spot are weekly preparations
any different? How do you and the staff know who to scout for the playoffs?
How important is having a playoff game or two at Fruth or does it really
matter? Thanks Coach and good luck into the playoffs and for the rest
of the regular season.
Billy Smithwick

A:
Thanks for the question Billy. Since we have secured a playoff
spot this season the weekly preparations are the same. We need to finish
off our regular season
before we can concentrate on the playoffs. As far as who do we know who
to scout? Well we really have no idea who we are going to play yet so it
is kind of
like a crap shot right now, we send out some crews to scout various games
in the state. We try to cover as many games as possible since we have no
idea where we will be going in the playoffs yet, so hopefully the coaching
staff has selected some games to cover of teams that we will see in the
playoffs. And Billy having some games at Fruth Field really does make a
huge difference, I know that there are some coaches in our conference who
feel that we gain 14 points by playing at home, so there is a huge home
field advantage playing at home. Make sure to stop out at the game on Friday
night we will need the crowd
support as we face the Lightning of Appleton North. I would also like to
thank the fans for the great support during the season the attendance has
grown
from game to game. Hopefully it will increase as we reach the playoff stage
of our season. Thanks a lot for the question, and see you at the game on
friday.

Q:
Coach Whittaker,
I was just wondering if there is anyone on the team this year that is
more attractive than Quinn Sullivan. I will be waiting for your response.
Thank you.
|
A:
I do not firmly believe that there is anyone that will be as attractive
as Quinn Sullivan on this years team. Quinn was the type of kid that always
stood out above the rest of the team with his stunning good looks and character.
He will definately be missed not only for his athletic abilty but for his
good looks as well.
Thanks for the question.

|
Q:
Coach Whittaker,
Do you see any blaring differences between this years
team and last years team?
|
A:
My response to that would be yes, but that is what is great about the game
of high school football. Every year the team changes because of the graduating
seniors. Every year the team takes on a new identity, last year we were
fortunate enough to have some very talented players playing for us in numerous
positions. However, this year we also have a group of talented players ready
to strap it on for the upcoming season for the red birds. I believe that
this years team really needs to play like a team in order to be successful.
All 80 plus members of the team need to be a team player and help each other
out, and I believe they will be successful like other Cardinal teams in
the past. Each year the team always has a new identity and it will be interesting
to see what this years Cardinal team's identity will be. We will find out
alot of answers to some questions in the scrimmage in Madison on friday
night. As far as teams to watch out for in the conference I believe that
Appleton East , Neenah, Kaukauna, Oshkosh North will be considered the top
runners in our conference. However I really believe that you must watch
out for Kimberly this year too, they will surprise a lot of people this
season. Also Appleton North might be a threat as well, especially with the
new head coach up there in Paul Engen. As everyone is aware the FVA is a
very tough conference to compete in, and you can not take any team for granted.
Thanks for the question, and I hope I answered it for you. It will be interesting
to see how the FVA shakes out this year though.

Q:
Coach,
I have heard you on several WFDL radio broadcasts in the past, do you
have plans in the future to get into the radio business? Also is it true
that you go through 7 or 8 bags of sunflower seeds each game? Once you
graduated from Harvard and went to Oxford did you participate in Polo
and the Crew teams?
Thank-you coach!
Dorby Meshnerbney
|
A:
It is true I have been on several WFDL radio broadcasts but currently
I do not have any plans on trying to make a career out of it. I do not think
I have the talent of a Greg Stensland, or a Tom Biolo to make a career of
it, those two or the consuamte
professionals. I got hooked on Greg and Tom doing play by play several years
ago when they did an excellent story on Trappers Turn golf course in Wisconsin
Dells, it included an interview with the club pro. It was an excellent story.
That is a main reason you have heard me on several WFDL broadcasts, from
time to time they even interview me at half time of the game, so make sure
to tune into WFDL for the broadcasts of all Fondy Cardinal games this season.
In regards to the sunflower seeds I go through approximately 9 bags a game,
it is a way of reducing the stress levels during a game. Also I enjoy a
good pack of seeds, but stay away from the rach flavored. Finally I did
participate in the polo team at oxford, my final year there we beat Yorkshire
for the national championship with the winning shot coming in triple overtime,
it was scored by none other then Ralph Machio. As far as the crew team I
attempted to make a spot on the squad but I injured my back during training
camp and was not able to crack the final day roster spot on the crew team
so I concentrated fully on the polo team. Thanks for the question Dorby.
Keep the questions coming!!!! |
